We believe that it’s not enough to work in the land reuse sphere. Brownfield redevelopment needs leadership at the federal level to advocate for policies and appropriations that support the equitable and responsible cleanup and reuse of underutilized, blighted, or environmentally impacted land. That is why CCLR co-manages the National Brownfields Coalition in collaboration with Smart Growth America.
Policy Development and Advocacy
The Coalition develops, raises awareness of, and advocates for policies and practices that support the remediation and redevelopment of brownfields nationwide. A unifying, non-partisan, and respected voice, the Coalition identifies challenges and opportunities for brownfields and pursues collaborative efforts to promote positive changes.
The National Brownfields Coalition works to:
- Advocate for federal legislation such as the Brownfields Utilization, Investment, and Local Development Act (BUILD Act).
- Support the improvement of federal environmental liability regulations.
- Produce best-in-class research that highlights best practices and lessons learned in brownfield redevelopment.
- Convene national leaders in brownfields to increase their expertise, leadership, and relationships on brownfields policy.
- Advocate annually for robust federal funding for brownfield programs at both the federal and state levels.
